I’m Julian Spillner, a director based in Berlin. For more than ten years I’ve been telling stories — in commercials, music videos and short films — and after all that time the work still comes down to one thing: a story worth telling, told simply and directly.

I picked up a camera when I was six, and the image has shaped how I see ever since. I like putting characters in a room and working closely with actors, preferably with dialogue. My films tend to sit somewhere between the funny and the serious, and my weakness is humor — the drier the better.

I’ve always stayed curious about how films get made. Lately that’s meant working with new technology and generative AI — sometimes enhancing what we shoot, sometimes building images from scratch — but the tools were never the point. They’re just new ways to tell a story I wanted to tell anyway.
